【Experience Event】Feel the Huge "Soul of YMATO"! SUMO & Chankonabe Experience in Ryougoku
Travel in Japan, except to go to attractions, you can also know the deeper Japan by join a experience event.
There has many kinds of experience in Japan like experience to wear Kimono or DIY of Japanese sweets which is really common. But today I want to introduce a really really rare experience event, SUMOBEYA experience!!
SUMO is a traditional Japanese sports. It’s let two huge and strong man to fight each other with no weapons.
SUMO can watch in Ryōgoku Kokugikan or other place which held sumo wrestling. So you maybe thought that it’s nothing different between the experience event and to buy a ticket of SUMO. But actually you will have more fun when join the event!
Now in Ryōgoku, the home of SUMO, has a SUMOBEYA held this kind of event regularly. You can watch wrestlers practice in morning and eat Chankonabe after that if you have a reservation.
Today I go to a SUMOBEYA, KISEBEYA, which is in the residential area in Ryougoku. The first floor is the practice place, and the dorm room of wrestlers and dining room is on above it.
Except some high almost all wrestlers belones here is live in dorm of KISEBEYA.
Wrestlers starts practice in early morning everyday. When I arrive at nine, they are already start their practices!
It’s really the first time that so many wrestlers stand in front of me!
You may think that it’s full of stinky smell of sweat, but I didn’t smell any there.
On the contrary, there was full of good fragrance of Japanese traditional incense.
The practice room is well ventilated and with plenty of light so that is also crisp and comfortable inside.
The wall of practice room is made by wood, and the ground is cement and covered with sand. We seat on a stage of wood to watch wrestlers practice in the room.
Coach of wrestlers is also sit on this stage to watch how wrestlers act. He gave comments and advice after every wrestlers do one practice act.
Wrestlers movement are all very fast that I can not watch every move very clearly.
If you want to know how fast theWrestlers are, you can watch picture below.
See! They are really fast!
Their speed are so fast that I can feel there is a wind blow with their move.
Except the practice of fighting, calisthenics are also very important. So wrestlers will do some basic calisthenics also.
Wrestlers are all strong that calisthenics are all looks very easy for them. Wrestler in the picture above are doing push-up. He can do 50 push-up in one minute! I only can do about 10 in a minute.
And there has another practice is that go ahead with keep the crouched position. Wrestlers are all can do it very will
I watch they practice for about one and half hour. Wrestlers are all looks not so tired but I was tired because of kneels for one and half hour.
But it’s worth that I had been so tired because I can eat Chankonabe after watch practice.
I had ate Chankonabe before, but I didn’t ate Chankonabe made by wrestlers and in a SUMOBEYA.
I was very exciting that I can eat Chankonabe here!!
When I go to the dining room at second floor, wrestlers are already finish the shower and help in the kitchen.
Wrestlers are just looks like different person when in the kitchen. They cooking food concentrate and wobble-plate very carefully.
When we arrive, dining table are all prepared.
Dishes are full of food made by fresh vegetable, and with good nutrition balance.
And there has some ingredients are made by themselves. For example, the second dish on the right in the picture above are ｍeat miso (Minced meat seasoned with soy bean paste) made by themselves.
KISEBEYA’s meat miso are looks just like common miso, but it’s taste is really different. Most miso are so salty that can’t not eat directly. But meat miso of KISEBEYA is not so salty and a little bit sweet so that it can eat both directly and with rice.
And ground pork inside the miso are make it more nutritious so that you can assimilate good protein by eat this miso.
Coach of KISEBEYA said that this miso can increase wrestlers appetite so that they won’t lose weight during summer. The most important is that this miso is can’t not be find in other place so I really feel lucky that I had ate it.
When every were sit down, the main dish, chankonabe is ready!
Today’s chankonabe’s soup is kimchi soup. There has above 30 kinds of soup of chankonabe . So you may eat different chankonabe every time you come.
Kimuchi soup has lots of vegetable in it and not greasy so that I ate a lot.
I ate the last chankonabe with udon noodles in it. And a small rice ball too.
Rice ball’s size is so cute and tiny, it’s hardly to imagine how wrestlers can make this kind of rice ball.
Today I'm not only watch wrestlers’s practice, eat chankonabe but also feel the Japanese spirit inside them. If next time you come to Ryōgoku, don’t forget come here to join this experience!
